Bombsell est un jeu de tir où le joueur contrôle Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison, un colonel dans la Global Defense Force. Sa carrière s’interrompt brusquement après un événement intitulé «l'incident de Washington», qui lui fait perdre son bras et son équipe. Shelly se voit ensuite offrir un nouveau contrat par un entrepreneur militaire privé et offrir une seconde chance et un nouveau bras mécanique. Elle devra se frayer un chemin à travers quatre planètes dans une aventure galactique pour sauver le président (et l'humanité) d’une menace extraterrestre.
